Zoli's Legacy (True Story)

Dawn L. Watkins

Targeted for older children, this is historical fiction based on the life of Zoltán Gaal. The events in the story are factual, therefore containing details from a number of not-so-perfect lives, as might be the case with some of our own past lives. When one’s heritage is non-Christian, oftentimes, there is hatred, bitterness, and wrongdoing in the lives of one’s extended family-perhaps even in our own until we come to the Savior. This is true of this life story. We cannot rewrite history, even our own. All this to say, Zoli's Legacy full of history and personal relationships, but not for younger children who cannot sort out wrongdoing, hatred, or prejudices.

The story begins at the close of World War I and spans thirty years to the close of World War II. Zoltán is a Hungarian youth, who does not yet know the Savior. His life is a difficult one. At the close of the story, Zoltán is a married man with children, escaping the Communists by crossing the barbed wire fence in the night to freedom. In the course of his years, due to the influence of a Christian teacher and the Bible, he came to the Lord.
